India on Sunday strongly rejected China’s move to assign Chinese names to several locations in Arunachal Pradesh, stating that such claims and attempts to create false narratives cannot change the “undeniable reality” that these areas are an integral part of Indian territory.

Responding to China announcing new names for certain places in the northeastern state, India said the move was unacceptable and misleading.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India “categorically rejects any mischievous attempts by the Chinese side to assign fictitious names to places which form part of the territory of India.”

He emphasized that such actions aimed at pushing false claims cannot alter the fact that these territories, including Arunachal Pradesh, “were, are, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India.”

Jaiswal also noted that such steps by China undermine ongoing efforts to stabilize and normalize bilateral relations between the two countries.

He urged Beijing to avoid actions that could create further tensions and negatively affect efforts to build better mutual understanding between India and China.
