The covid phase has been a nightmare for people all over the world. Since 2019, people of all age categories had struggled to fight this perilous disease. It was really difficult to come out of the trauma, but somehow people managed to say goodbye to it after years. The previous year was much better. It is unfortunate that the pandemic has spurred its head again in 2023. Our valley has witnessed a surge in covid-19. On Wednesday, 122 new positive cases of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) were reported in Jammu and Kashmir, 52 from Jammu division and 70 from Kashmir division, taking the total number of active positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 531. People are suffering from mild symptoms such as fever cough cold and body pain. We are seeing patients visiting doctors for treatment. This reminds us of the pre-pandemic phase when people had no medical facilities. The hospitals had no space for the patients. There were only a few ventilators, maybe the condition had deteriorated at that time, how would have the people managed to save their lives. Chances were, more people would have died. This year there is no excuse for the health department. These two years were enough to prepare for this deadly disease. More and more equipment should have been arranged by the health department as a backup plan. Anytime, this virus may show up its fangs like a snake and squeeze people to death. Though the concerned departments are issuing guidelines for the pandemic, still there is fear among people that the virus may come back and kill many. We can’t always blame the departments but people need to be mentally and physically prepared for the virus. They should go for weekly checkups and get covid tests done. When we talk of social distancing, people have become selfish. They are seen roaming in public places and markets without masks. Even so, people forget to carry hand sanitizers with them. As Eid is approaching, there will be a lot of rush in markets. People are requested to keep social distancing while shopping for Eid. Whosoever tries to violate the laws must be given severe punishment. When it is about saving a life, things can’t be taken for granted. Moreover, people who have not gone for vaccination must do it immediately. Now, Covid 2023 is a challenge for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and we must beat the virus and trump over it.
