Hate-Mongers in Religious Garb Must Be Stopped Before It’s Too Late

For the last six months, social media has increasingly become a platform for dangerous sectarian propaganda. What should have been a space for dialogue and engagement has instead turned into a breeding ground for hate, division and open provocation.
At the centre of this toxic campaign are some self-styled sectarian leaders who, ironically, claim to speak in the name of religion. Instead of preaching peace, tolerance and brotherhood, they have chosen to spread venom and inflame passions. Every speech, every video and every social media post appears designed to deepen divisions and push communities towards confrontation.
This is not religious discourse; it is a reckless game with public peace and social harmony.
The tragedy is that these individuals are exploiting religious sentiments to gain attention and influence, without any regard for the consequences of their words. They seem oblivious to the fact that in a sensitive society, hate-filled rhetoric can quickly translate into violence on the streets. The atmosphere has become increasingly charged, and it would be foolish to ignore the warning signs.
The administration must act now—before it is too late. Waiting for a tragedy to occur and then issuing condemnations will serve no purpose. The responsibility of the government and law-enforcement agencies is to prevent unrest, not merely react to it. Those who repeatedly spread hatred and incite sectarian passions should be dealt with firmly, irrespective of their religious standing or social influence.
No individual should be allowed to hide behind religious attire while poisoning society. A robe or a title cannot become a licence to sow discord and endanger public peace.
Equally, society must reject these merchants of hate. Genuine religious leaders, civil society and responsible citizens have a duty to stand up against divisive narratives and reaffirm the values of coexistence, mutual respect and brotherhood.
The signs are clear and the danger is real. The social media onslaught by sectarian elements has reached a point where a single spark could trigger a catastrophe. Preventing that disaster requires courage and decisive action now—not after the damage has been done.
