The news that Krystle Kaur, a polyglot with mastery over eight languages of the world including Arabic and also with roots in Kashmir, would be running for US congress has triggered a wave of joy in Kashmir. She will be running from that she will run for the US House of Representatives from a Congressional district in Virginia with a focus on core issues like public safety, education and healthcare. If elected she would become only the second woman of India-origin to be elected to the House of Representatives after Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal. There was one more woman who currently forms a team of the secretariat at white house.
People of Kashmiri origin being represented at positions of power in the United States of America (USA) is a glorious achievement. The USA is among the oldest and the most powerful democracies in the world currently. Making it big in the USA is emblematic of the fact that a Kashmiri brain is fertile and capable of going above the line of duty to undertake difficult roles, designations and positions.
We have scores of Kashmiris who teach at Ivy League colleges and universities in the USA. Many of our doctors are heading critical departments in primary US health institutions. We have produced lawyers, doctors, and educators of repute.
Having said that, it is high time to leverage these achievements for the economic prosperity of Kashmir. The energies of this pool of intellect making it big in first-world countries have to somehow be redirected towards Kashmir. We have to invite Non-Resident Kashmiris to seminars, webinars and try to understand their position of reluctance as far as investing in Kashmir is concerned. How could the state administration listen to their queries, questions or fears? When business behemoths like Lulu group and Emaar group are investing in Kashmir big time, what is stopping our non-resident Kashmiris from investing their time, knowledge, intellect and capital in Kashmir?
We hope that Lieutenant Governor will take this seriously and see to it that Non-resident Kashmiris are involved in the development of the union territory of Kashmir. With these words, we wish all the best to the daughter of the soil, Krystle Kaur.
