Shikari village in Tulail area of Gurez is without basic facilities causing immense hardships to villagers.
Residents said that the village lacks proper road connectivity, healthcare facility, electricity, mobile connectivity and potable water supply.
According to the locals, the village health centre has been closed for years now and the staff rarely shows up.
“Also, the situation is no different at the local school where irregular attendance of teachers is negatively impacting students,” they as per news agency KNO said.
Similarly, locals complained about lack of piped water saying they have to collect water in buckets from a distance.
“We have to go to far-off places to fetch water because we don’t have access to a drinking water facility nearby,” Bashir Ahmad a local resident said, adding that their village is situated on a hill, and rains trigger landslides causing damage to their houses.
“The absence of electricity persists and the government is not concerned about our plight,” he added.
Noor Mohammad, another local resident, said they travel to a nearby village to make a call as the village lacks mobile network connectivity.
People appealed to the LG administration and Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Owais Ahamd to personally look into the matter and help to resolve their grievances.
An official said that he will look into the grievances of the people.
