Official sources said that following the initial gunfire, additional reinforcements were rushed to the area to plug escape routes.
Due to darkness and the dense forest cover, a strict multi-tier cordon has been maintained overnight to resume the operation at first light.
Earlier, joint forces launched a search operation in the forested belt after receiving specific intelligence inputs about the suspected presence of terrorists in the area. (GNS)
Further details are awaited.
