The government on Saturday informed the House that Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed an overall decline in the unemployment rate since 2019.
Replying to a question from NC legislator Mubarak Gul, and Javed Dar, stated that unemployment had dropped from 6.7% in 2019-2020 to 6.1% in 2023-2024.
He further highlighted improvements in the Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) and Worker Population Ratio (WPR), which have risen to 64.3% and 64.4% respectively in 2023-2024. These indicators, according to the Minister, reflect enhanced employment opportunities in the region.
“The steady decline in unemployment, coupled with rising LFPR and WPR, showcases the success of targeted policies and initiatives aimed at boosting the labor market, sustaining economic growth, and improving the overall quality of life,” the Minister added.
He also informed the House that a total of 11,526 selections were made by JKPSC and JKSSB between 2023-2024, with 2,175 appointments by JKPSC and 9,351 by JKSSB.
However, Mubarak Gul questioned the credibility of these figures, pointing out discrepancies between government data and statistics from independent surveys. He also inquired about the government’s plans to expedite recruitment.
In response, the Minister assured that steps would be taken to fast-track the recruitment process and provide more employment opportunities in the Union Territory.
