The Group of Concerned Citizens (GCC) Jammu & Kashmir has strongly condemned the alleged rape and murder of a tribal woman in Nishat, Srinagar, calling it “a grievous wound on the conscience of our society.”
In a statement issued today, the GCC appreciated the prompt action by the police in apprehending the accused and urged authorities to ensure a fast-track investigation and trial. “Justice must be secured swiftly for the victim and her family, and the severest punishment must be handed down to the perpetrators to unleash a deterrent effect,” the statement said.
The GCC emphasized the need to address the root causes of rising crimes against women and called on society to act collectively. “It is our collective responsibility to address the causes at the root of rising crime against women,” the group said, while making a passionate appeal for communities to unite in building a culture where women are respected, protected, and empowered.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves across the region, prompting renewed calls for systemic reforms and community engagement to ensure women’s safety.
