Back home our country is holding its biggest event, its final summit of G20 on 9th and 10th of September. As the countdown is near zero, it is very important to talk about this summation which is shaping India in many ways. G20 or Group of the Twenties is an amalgamation of superpowers and some other developing countries to talk and deliberate on some pressing issues the world is facing today. G20 contributes 80% of the world’s GDP and 78% of Global trade. Perse this is an opportunity for India as a Rising global South to showcase its rich culture, heritage, and its power.

The G20 Presidency steers the G20 agenda for one year and hosts the Summit. The G20 consists of two parallel tracks: the Finance Track and the Sherpa Track. Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors lead the Finance Track while Sherpas lead the Sherpa Track after Finance Track. Acc to g2o.org, The 18th G20 Summit in New Delhi will be a culmination of all the G20 processes and meetings held throughout the year among ministers, senior officials, and civil societies. Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which translates to “One Earth, One Family, One Future” is the theme of India's G20 presidency. It is inspired from the Maha Upanishad, an old Sanskrit scripture. The theme fundamentally highlights the importance of all life—human, animal, plant, and microorganism—as well as their interdependence on Earth and across the universe. The theme also exemplifies LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), which highlights the importance of environmentally sustainable and responsible lifestyle choices, both at the individual and national level, in creating a cleaner, greener, and
bluer future.

New Delhi views the G20 presidency as an opportunity to show that it has the capacity to serve as a bridge to the Global South; that it can show India’s ability to manage relations with rival powers,” Michael Kugelman, the director of the South Asia Institute at the Wilson Center in Washington, tells TIME. But the task was never going to be easy, amid rising tensions around the world from Ukraine to the Indo- Pacific. A key test will be whether Modi can ensure the summit ends with enough consensus to produce a joint communiqué or Leaders’ Declaration.

The G20 Summit 2023 is all set to take place in New Delhi between September 9 and 10, 2023, at Pragati Maidan—now known as the Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition-Convention Centre (IECC). India has extended invitations to the leaders of 11 nations to participate as guests in the G20 Summit 2023. Acc to Forbes, G20 has expanded on topics from economics and finance, including climate change, sustainable energy, debt relief, and
multinational corporation taxation.

For the G20 2023 Summit, the discussions would revolve around:

● Increasing loans to developing nations from multilateral institutions.
● Reforming international debt structures.
● Regulating cryptocurrencies.
● Addressing the impact of geopolitical uncertainties on food and energy security

G20 And Pakistan

The third tourism Working group meeting was held in Srinagar, which was a huge blow to Pakistan and its allies. Pakistan tried every bit to spread venom against India or holding G20 in Kashmir. Pakistan despite going through the worst crisis is still propagating terrorism and creating ruckus. Pakistan, which is not a member of the G20 group, is unnecessarily losing its noke in India’s internal affairs. As a failed state they have been trying everything to create a sense at the international level against India but failed miserably.

The G20 TWG Meeting in Srinagar was a successful event spanning three days. Delegates engaged in a working lunch and informative Side Events on “Film Tourism for Economic Growth and Cultural Preservation” before enjoying a Shikara ride on Dal Lake, experiencing local art and craft, and attending a cultural night and gala dinner. The inaugural session featured esteemed speakers discussing tourism’s importance and sustainable development. Working sessions, bilateral meetings, and a dinner event highlighted the exchange of ideas and collaborations. Delegates also had the opportunity to explore Nishat Bagh and witness mesmerizing performances by local artists, making it a memorable and enriching gathering.

The 18th G20 summit will start in Delhi on Sept 9. This summit, the largest one so far, serves as the culmination of a year’s worth of G20 processes and meetings involving ministers, senior officials, and civil society representatives. The highly anticipated event will see the adoption of a G20 Leaders Declaration, solidifying the leaders commitment to the discussed priorities from ministerial and working group meetings. This event will have global leaders who shape our lives. India will be a leading southern power in Asia.
