Residents of Kreeri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district are up arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) due to the frequent unscheduled power cuts.
The residents of Dolipora, Kawacheck, Waripora, Dardpora, Sheikhpora, Harnow, Kakovthal, and other villages of the area told Good Morning Kashmir that the unscheduled power cuts make them suffer immensely during the present chilly nights. They said that not only non-metered, but metered areas are also facing the same fate.
“We pay electricity charges per month but electricity only remains for few hours,” said Ashiq Ahmad, a local resident of the area.
He said that the power supply gets disrupted in peak hours i.e, morning and evening due to which the locals suffer.
Another local resident, Hilal Ahmad claimed that unscheduled and continued power cuts add to huge problems and the Power Development Department (PDD) is not taking effective steps to improve the electricity supply as a result of which there is outrage among the people towards the department.
They said despite repeated pleas the authorities are unmoved. “We have approached authorities several times in this regard, but rather than improving the supply, it has deteriorated further.”
“As soon as the evening falls we don’t even see the glimpses of electricity. We have to eat under candlelight,” they said.
Locals said that the power shortage not only exasperates the general public but also affects the students preparing for various exams.
Residents have urged concerned authorities to look into their grievances and take necessary steps for their redressal.
