National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah has strongly criticized the Waqf Amendment Act, calling it “against the Constitution.”
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Abdullah welcomed the decision of the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly to disallow discussion on the Bill, citing its pending status in the Supreme Court.
“The Speaker made a good decision of not allowing discussion on this as the matter is in the Supreme Court. We can talk about this after the Supreme Court’s decision,” he said.
Dr. Abdullah also took aim at the Opposition, accusing it of lacking constructive engagement. “The Opposition here is only meant to do opposition; it is not a healthy criticism,” he remarked.
The Waqf Amendment Act has triggered political debate in the region, with several parties raising concerns over its implications.
