It is ok if a dog kills a man in Kashmir, but it is a crime if a man kills a dog. Animal rights activists need to keep in mind that other than animals, human life is also precious. When people get injured due to dog attacks they definitely have to stand up for saving their lives in defense. This does not mean that people are violating animal rights. Where do animal rights activists hide when a person is injured or succumb to dog bites? If the activists speak up about saving animals then why don’t they become responsible for stopping these attacks? Why don’t they come on the streets and check the large group of dogs tearing out small children in the past? So far the population of stray dogs has gone up scaring citizens as well as visitors in the valley. Over the past several years many dog bite incidents have been reported till date. Every day we see packs of dogs roaming freely on the roads of villages, towns, and cities posing threat to commuters. The morning walkers have been constantly complaining about dog attacks. Elderly people, office-goers, and school-going children also fear moving out of their homes. After the reopening of schools in the valley, the first concern of parents is dogs as they fear sending their children to schools. They believe that anything might happen to their children and the small children can even escape the dog attacks. In Srinagar, dogs have taken up the school and university campus frightening the students. The worst part is that the canines pull piles of garbage and spread litter on the streets. It becomes difficult for people to walk on stinky and dirty roads. The people have been tolerating it for a long time now but nothing has been done to stop this dog menace. New stories and grievances have been carried by most of the newspapers to request the administration but still, dogs are seen in large numbers. It seems that SMC is unsparing in its efforts to help the people. We request concerned administration to curb their population so that the roads of the valley become safe to walk on.
