Elderly care in crisis

It is a fact of life that everyone has to grow old one day. Today it is them, tomorrow it is our turn. Old-aged people are definitely a treasure for society. Their experiences and live events in life are fruitful to the modern youth in the valley. The life of old people is precious because they are the only ones who can guide youngsters on how to pass the different tests of life. Their advice works in the bad circumstances of life. The saddest part is old age is the most painful phase of human life. It is true that a person becomes wise with age but the body becomes frail and exhausted. They don’t have so much energy to perform the daily tasks of life. Even if their willpower tells them to move a rock physical weakness still comes their way. It is quite heartwrenching to see old aged people waiting in long queues to get things done. A small verification ended the life of an elderly person. It is the story of every department nowadays. The old people have to wait whereas the young ones don’t even bother to help them. We live in modern Kashmir then why do we fail to provide “online” verification of old age documents or for any other purpose? If the old person is not able to stand in queues then why someone from the family cannot come for verification with the old person’s documents? Old people can’t express their weakness to anyone. Sometimes they can’t even share their problems with their own children. In our valley, the reality of life is that old parents are ignored and left over. Some are not living with their parents. Even they don’t take responsibility for their expenses such as food, medicine, and clothes. The old age people are neglected and left alone. The old parent is forced to buy groceries, especially during the winter times. They are like robots and follow the order of their sons. They observe everything but don’t utter even a single word after all the son is the only hope of his old father. To maintain their reputation in society the old parents don’t utter even a single word. We often hear old that old people get hit by a speedy vehicle. This is the negligence of the family who doesn’t take care of the whereabouts of old parents. There are some families in Kashmir who use the pension of old parents to live their lives. Greedy children enjoy the perks but when it comes to caring for their parents, they will not take responsibility. The youth must show love and affection towards elderly people. Their presence is important and their knowledge is vast. So be very gentle to the old aged people.
