Eight arrested, 25 identified for vandalism during Sopore student protest

Strict legal action will be taken against anyone trying to disturb public peace, officials reiterated.

Eight miscreants who allegedly infiltrated a peaceful student protest and indulged in vandalism and stone-pelting have been arrested following night-long raids, police said on Tuesday.

The miscreants tried to exploit the situation at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School to create law and order problems, they said.

“Twenty-five other individuals have also been identified and efforts are underway to apprehend them at the earliest,” a police spokesperson said.

Police officials appreciated the cooperation of students, parents and the general public in maintaining peace. They urged people to continue sharing information about anti-social elements.
