Doctors terminated

The administration recently terminated the services of two doctors found unwarrantedly absent from their duties for a long duration of time. While in case of one doctor, it had dawned that he had sought a leave of a few months – yes you heard it right – to go to a first-world country. While as the same doctor did not return to duty even after three months an inquiry was ordered and after reviewing all the pros and cons it was established that the only justifiable action in this regard would be termination from the services. This is not the first time this has happened. Our doctors, engineers, and professors often go to foreign countries during their official tenure. This time they spent in attending job interviews and once anything clicks it is a final goodbye to the job in the state administration. We must congratulate the administration for acting tough on the erring doctors. In the same breath, however, we impress upon the state administration’s service compliance part to cast a wider in almost all departments – there is a lot of the proverbial fish in the ocean. It is common knowledge to hear of teachers who go to school just a few days in a month, of government employees whom very people in their own offices know because of the former’s long absences from the office. In our universities after the five-day week hardly a few employees are found on Friday post prayers – upon inquiry one finds everyone has gone to the central library ( a common excuse). The economy of the UT can only progress once the government employees put in their hard work. Like the private sector government can think of appraisal as per the quality of work delivered, weeding out non-performing employees and getting in the system fresh graduates and post-graduates with a lot of fire in the belly. The government must once again be congratulated for its bold step. We hope this will be a regular feature and the government will now cast a wider net which encompasses all departments.
