Our entire socio-economic cycle is in doldrums as the virus is doing warm ups. One wonders and everyone is forced to ask the question: what will happen in coming days? How would we sustain another peak? shall we say, another wave is in its ‘infancy’ stage? Before few days, WHO members agreed to strengthen the global body at the heart of the pandemic response. The 194 member states, in a 14-page resolution on the last day of the virtual annual World Health Assembly, agreed to “strengthen the WHO’s capacity to rapidly and appropriately assess disease outbreaks”. Just a few days back we have been consistently hitting 3000 to 5000 positive cases per day, which was worrisome, extremely worrisome. Now, the UT is recording a few hundred cases in a day One wonders whether the opening of markets at such a critical junction was a wise idea or not. One could see crowds of people jostling for space in front of shops and people stocked up items heavily thinking it might be a lockdown again.

North Kashmir has been in news for all the wrong reasons, be it excessive crowding, lack of social distancing during rush hours, even unmasked vendors and buyers is a common site. But the high class “B-People” believes authorities are targeting shopkeepers with such measures, instead of taking action of crowding caused by illegal hawkers on the streets and pavements. Moreover, markets, in City particularly, are so congested and interlinked with each other that the odd-even formula will not lead to smooth commencement of business. But since this is the order, we have no other option but to follow it. Easing lockdown is not a good move, but still something is better than nothing. It might very well be. We can only imagine what the scene will be in the coming days. At this critical junction we are hearing that many sectors may start functioning again. It would in no way be a wise decision at all. We need to wait it out.
