The board of school education declared the results for class 10th, 12th. Congratulations to the ones who passed with flying colours. Hard luck to the ones who did not make it this time round-they should remember that there is always a next time. It is heartening to note that girls are giving neck to neck competition to boys nowadays. However, the ones who passed have no one to ask counseling questions to. A majority does not have any concrete idea what they have to do in future-everyone is being kept under the broad brushes of Science, Commerce, humanities and arts. While the world is shifting to the 6G mode of communication, our academic system has not undergone much change. The same courses, same subjects, same teachers, the same way of teaching, the same empty benches, the same high percentage of high scoring students and equally lesser number of employable youth.

At a time when newer courses like digital marketing, big data, Artificial Intelligence and software development are becoming increasingly popular we are teaching our youth what Socrates and Aristotle felt about the universe. The need of the hour is to counsel the students about these employable courses so that upon completion of the course they can fetch a job for themselves. Career Counselling is a Discovery Process and an early start allows one to make the career search process more structured so they are aware about their goals ahead of time. While counselling after 12th may be slightly delayed, but the guides should always welcome students who step-up to seek Career Counselling support. It is never too late to consult an expert and make an informed choice. In a place like Kashmir proper counseling will give us a young and energetic workforce ready to change the GDP and other parameters on which development is measured. We hope things change. The sooner they change the better.
