With potholes due to heavy vehicular traffic, the road leading to Choolan in Uri has been in a dilapidated state for some time now, posing a serious threat to students and other commuters.
A delegation of locals told Good Morning Kashmir that the dilapidated condition of the road is giving tough time to the commuters. Besides making the commute difficult.
Locals said that the dilapidated condition of the road has affected the vehicular movement on it. “I ply my cab on this route but I need to get its wheels aligned or changed in a short period of time. This has become a new headache for us,” said, a local resident.
“The ongoing Widening Project is very disturbing. Thw work is going on at a slow pace,” locals said.
“Due to the ongoing widening process, the road from Mahoora to Choolan is in extreme bad state that people have to go through immense hardships during travels,” they said.
“Due to large chuck holes at various spots the commuters have to face a lot of mental pressure. The dust thus spread has made people and school-going children sick. It can cause serious health issues if the road is left poorly maintained,” they said.
Locals said that they have taken up this issue a number of times with the concerned authorities but to no avail. “In spite of so many requests, the beacon authorites are closing their eyes and nothing quick is being done with regard to completion of the Widening process and blacktopping of the said patch,” they said.
When contacted Officer Commanding (OC), BEECON, said that the work on the said road is in progress. “Lot has been achieved so far, presently the work is in progress,” he added.
“We appeal the LG Admin as well as the District administration to intervene into the matter as soon as possible so that the citizens may have a sign of relief,” they said.
