In south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, commuters are having a tough time due to slow pace of construction work on 8 kilometres stretch of road from Khachkoot to Saimoh.
The locals told Good Morning Kashmir that the work on the project has been almost completed, however, no steps have been taken so far to macadamize the road. “Since the last three months, there has been no progress, and we are wondering when would be the macadamization work start,” Ubaid Yousaf, a local, said.
Irshad Ahmad, a resident of Khachkoot, said people had been left to suffer as they are being forced to deal with the dust due to the slow pace of the ongoing road construction project.
“We are suffering from allergy and cough due to the dust. If no steps are taken by the concerned authorities, we have to decide to shift our house to avoid the dust,” he said. Adding that the dust has increased the pollution. Schoolchildren are especially affected by it.
Motorists complain that traveling on the infested road has led them to suffer from breathing problems. Some people have taken to wearing masks to save themselves from the dust.
“The road has been dug up for the work. When the vehicles pass, a thick layer of dust settles on the flowers. The dust has also affected our health,” they said.
Locals said that if the project is completed in a stipulated time, locals of the area may have a sigh of relief.
The locals demanded immediate intervention of higher-ups into the matter and requested them to macadamize the road as soon as possible.
