Till recently, the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state was flourishing with corrupt practices as USP in almost every section of the society. From day-to-day routine to transfer and getting works done without indulging in buying and selling consciences, it was impossible for any work to see its completion.
From the rank of the 7th most corrupt society only in the recent past, the proactive approach against corruption has immediately changed the completion of the day-to-day affairs. The ACB and other agencies going after the menace with perseverance and consistent approach have instilled a fear atleast among the section and particular public offices where greasing of palms was considered to be a right for employees and officers. In Jammu and Kashmir, particularly after the abrogation of Article 370, Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has started a mammoth drive against the corrupt elements, during which the department registered several cases against politicians, revenue officials, cooperators, contractors, and other officials, the drive has undoubtedly created a fear psychosis among the corrupt elements.
According to the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), a total of 94 graft cases were registered from January 1, 2022, till August (2022). The ACB police station in Srinagar, which also covers graft cases in Ganderbal and Budgam districts, had a total of 32 cases in the corresponding period. Baramulla police station of the ACB, which also covers Bandipora and Kupwara districts, reported 23 cases while the Anantnag police station covering four south Kashmir districts had 13 cases, as per the ACB data.
Pertinent to mention here, wide spread of corruption in J&K earlier created widespread anguish and anger among the masses, to get rid out of this menace JK government has stresses on zero tolerance for corruption in J&K. Now from the much-needed tough acts, against the corrupt is fine but only the fear of being arrested or shamed is not enough for complete eradication of the menace, but the transformation should start from the every household irrespective of the status, whether rich or poor. The government has given the good start but it is for the general public to get the baton and take it forward with the zeal and zest
