City commuters decry poor public transport in evening hours

Commuters from various parts of Srinagar and its outskirts have expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of public transportation on many routes in the evening hours, which makes it difficult for them to take a ride back home.

Locals from important city routes like Lal Bazar, Hazratbal, Soura are annoyed with the non-availability of evening public transportation, which forces them to leave for home early.

“There is no mechanism, no accountability. Everyone doesn’t owns a car, there are people who wander from one place to another to catch a vehicle to reach their homes. Nobody find public transport plying after evening hours,” a group of passengers told Good Morning Kashmir

As public transportation vanishes from the roads early in the evening, hundreds of commuters can be spotted waiting for the journey back home in the bone-chilling cold.

Commuters may be seen waiting for buses at places like Jehangir Chowk, Maharaja Bazar, Lal Chowk, and Dalgate on a regular basis.

Passengers say the student community, office goers are facing hardships for years now, especially during winters but there is nobody who listen and address their grievance.

“Women are forced to wait longer during evening hours. “If there is a vehicle, men press their way aboard it, leaving women and the elderly behind. One needs to fight their way inside,” a woman said.

The commuters have appealed LG administration and senior officials of the concerned department to take serious note and take immediate steps to improve the transport facility in the City during evening hours.
