In a significant move aimed at curbing cross-border misinformation and safeguarding national security, the Government of India has banned 16 YouTube channels based in Pakistan.
The decision, made on the recommendations of the Ministry of Home Affairs, comes in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
The banned channels, including prominent media outlets such as Dawn News, ARY News, and Geo News, were found to be disseminating provocative and communally sensitive content, as well as false narratives targeting India’s sovereignty and security agencies.
Officials sources stated that the content hosted on these channels sought to spread misinformation, incite communal disharmony, and undermine public trust in Indian security forces. The Ministry emphasized that such actions could threaten public order and national integrity, especially during sensitive times.
This move is part of a broader crackdown on digital platforms misused for spreading disinformation and is aligned with India’s commitment to ensuring a secure and responsible online space.
The government has reiterated its resolve to take strict action against any attempt to destabilize the country through digital propaganda.
