In a significant development, Budgam Police carried out extensive searches at multiple locations across the district in connection with ongoing investigations into terror-related cases involving proscribed organisations.
The raids were conducted as part of the investigation under FIR Nos. 08/2024, 09/2024, and 87/2024, registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The organisations under scrutiny include Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Muslim League, and Peoples Freedom League, which were declared proscribed in 2024.
According to officials, the searches targeted the residences and premises of suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and activists associated with these banned outfits. The raids took place in the villages of Daharmuna, Warpora, Badran, Kawoosa Khalisa, and Buzgoo in Budgam district.
This comes after a previous raid at the head office of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, located in the Milli Trust building in Hyderpora, where incriminating materials were recovered and seized.
“Budgam Police remain committed to maintaining peace and security in the district. Stringent action will continue to be taken against unlawful elements to dismantle the terror ecosystem,” a police spokesperson stated.
The authorities have assured that further investigations are ongoing, and anyone found involved in illegal activities will face legal consequences. The recent operations are seen as a strong message against any attempts to disturb the prevailing peace in the region.
