Photo’s lying with Good Morning Kashmir shows people and even officials at the Gram Sabha meetings without wearing face masks, thus putting their lives and lives of others at risk.

Medicos & Locals of district Budgam expressed resentment against the administration for holding such programmes amid a spike in daily cases and urged the administration to put hold on all such programmes for the time being.

“I don’t think there is a need for such Gram Sabha’s at the time when we are witnessing such a huge surge in Covid Cases. After Srinagar and Baramulla, Budgam has the highest number of active cases and as such Budgam Administration should have cancelled all these programmes,” said Gagandeep Singh, a resident of Attina village of Budgam district.

“Allowing such programmes at this juncture only shows how serious is administration towards Covid-19 in general and People in particular”, he added.

“Covid-19 is a relatively new disease but now that we are facing it for almost 15 months we have evidence based protocols in place which are being followed worldwide. The situation is worrisome after the second wave in India and the same can be said about Kashmir. Arranging gatherings at this stage is like adding fuel to the fire”, said a Kashmiri doctor who is working as Chief Emergency Specialist in KSA.

“Unfortunately, this shouldn’t have happened. We have intelligent and dedicated doctors in UT who are working round the clock delivering to the best of their capacity and resources.I request administration to seek expert opinion from them before allowing such gatherings. Simultaneously, I request Media Fraternity to play a crucial role by arranging some platforms where expert doctors should be invited so that the community is made aware about the disease and SOP’s. Hope we will overcome this pandemic soon.” he further added.

Pertinently, Budgam is the 3rd covid hit district in Kashmir valley with over 1200 active cases at present.

Deputy Commissioner, Budgam, Shahbaz Mirza who is also Chairman, DDMA, didn’t received call from this reporter despite many attempts.
