Residents living along the Line of Control in Karnah, Tangdar, Gurez, and Lolab valley in northern Kashmir on Wednesday urged the authorities to upgrade facilities and infrastructure so that tourists can visit the place in winters.

They said that the government should enhance tourism infrastructure and roads leading to the above places should be kept open throughout the winter season.

“We have endured a great deal of hardship due to the cross border shelling. We are pinning our hopes on tourism that it can uplift our economy,” said Mohammad Sultan, a local.

Mudasir Ahmad, another local, said that if the administration genuinely desires to turn these areas into tourist destinations during winter, they will have to invest a considerable amount of effort.

Shameem Ahmad of Gurez Valley said that the authorities should organise winter sports events and explore places for skiers in the Valley.

An official said that the administration is doing the best to bring these areas on the tourism map. “The government is also doing all that it can to make these places accessible during cold weather and is organizing all the vital preparations,” he added—(KNO).
