The figures themselves tell a story of determination and progress. Academic programmes have more than doubled—from 41 in 2021 to 90 in 2025—introducing interdisciplinary courses that align with global trends such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Space Technology, Data Sciences, and even the unique “Design Your Own Degree” concept. This shift not only modernizes education but also empowers students to tailor their learning experiences in tune with industry demands and personal aspirations.

Equally heartening is the dramatic rise in student engagement. Applications across disciplines have surged from 3,000 in 2021 to 7,600 in 2025, drawing a diverse talent pool from every corner of Jammu and Kashmir and beyond. Such growth reflects renewed public trust in the university’s academic rigor and its ability to deliver on its promises.

Perhaps the most transformative achievement lies in the research and innovation ecosystem. Once struggling with meagre external funding of Rs. 2 crore annually, IUST has now secured over Rs. 69 crore in just four years—a phenomenal leap that underscores the university’s growing credibility and collaborative spirit. The granting of 32 patents, publication of 77, and filing of 33 more reflects a vibrant research culture that is steadily taking root. The recognition of two faculty members among India’s top scientists further amplifies the university’s rising stature in academia.

Equally impressive is the institution’s success in nurturing entrepreneurship. From a modest beginning with zero start-ups in 2021, IUST now boasts 93 start-ups, having hosted more than 225 incubatees. These ventures—spanning renewable energy, healthcare, and IT—are not mere statistics but living proof of how academia can become a powerful driver of local and regional economic transformation.

Lieutenant Governor Sinha’s emphasis on investing in human capital, R&D, incubation centres, and university infrastructure is paying rich dividends. IUST today mirrors the new spirit of Jammu and Kashmir—innovative, forward-looking, and determined to script its own success story.

The evolution of IUST is not just an institutional achievement—it is a symbol of what focused governance, visionary leadership, and youthful ambition can accomplish when aligned with purpose. As the university continues to chart new frontiers, it stands as a testament to the transformative power of education in building a prosperous and progressive Jammu and Kashmir.
