Army soldier killed in avalanche in north Kashmir

Srinagar: An Indian Army soldier was killed on Tuesday late night after he was hit by an avalanche in Tanghdar area of Kupwara district, official sources said.

Official sources said that the post in which he along with two other soldiers were living, came under the avalanche last night.

The trio according to official were shifted to nearby hospital, where a soldier who suffered serious injuries died later.

The deceased as per the official has been identified as Rifleman Nikhil Sharma of 07-RR.

On the eve of Guru Ravi Dass Ji Jayanti, Orzu Multi Speciality Dental & Implant Centre, in collaboration with the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), organised a free medical camp at R.S. Pora in Jammu on Sunday. The initiative was aimed at providing accessible healthcare services to the local population while promoting the spirit of service, equality, and social welfare associated with the teachings of Guru Ravi Dass Ji. The medical camp witnessed an overwhelming response from the public, with hundreds of patients, including men, women, and elderly persons, undergoing medical examinations conducted by a team of qualified doctors. The large turnout highlighted the urgent need for such healthcare initiatives in the area. Along with free medical check-ups, patients were also provided free medicines on the spot, offering significant relief to economically weaker sections of society. The medical camp was attended by Dr Akash Bhat, Dentist, and Dr Sunaina Bhat, Physician, who examined patients and provided medical consultation. SBSP State President Vivek Bali, Dilawar Singh, Political Advisor J&K, Raj Kumar, President R.S. Pora, Rajesh Kumar, Vice President R.S. Pora, along with other senior party leaders and workers, were also present on the occasion. In a statement issued here, SBSP State President Vivek Bali said that the free medical camp was organised on the eve of Guru Ravi Dass Ji Jayanti with the objective of serving the people and addressing basic healthcare needs. He stated that hundreds of residents benefited from free health check-ups and medicines, reaffirming the party’s commitment to public welfare and inclusive development. Bali further said that the teachings of Guru Ravi Dass Ji continue to inspire society to uphold the values of compassion, equality, and selfless service. He described the organisation of such medical camps as a small yet meaningful step towards fulfilling social responsibility. He also appreciated the efforts of doctors, paramedical staff, and volunteers who contributed to the success of the camp despite limited resources. He added that, in view of the positive response from the public and the growing healthcare needs of underserved areas, similar medical camps will be organised in the future at different locations. Bali assured that SBSP, in collaboration with medical institutions and social organisations, will continue to take initiatives focused on health, education, and the overall welfare of the people.
