This is how people in the valley approach these professionals. Both are contributing to society equally but here we need to understand why people who are more respectful towards doctors, and engineers, while electricians are called in a disrespectful tone. This is because we are still copying the old mindset of people. No doubt doctors save lives but it is the electrician who sometimes has to sacrifice his own life to drive us out of the darkness. In our valley, the trend of becoming a doctor is continuing from the past. Youngsters when asked questions about their careers, they want to become doctors even if they are not mentally capable for the profession. The parents force their children to go for an MBBS degree. When children in Kashmir are 5 – 6 years old, their parents decide that they have to be doctors at any cost. This is how the importance of other professions diminishes slowly keeping the youth unemployed. We don’t teach our children the importance of every profession at an early age.
Children must at an early age learn to respect all professions. It is the labourers who built the giant Taj Mahal. It’s they who make our houses by fixing each brick so that we live in it. Imagine if there were no labourers what would be life like? These labourers use a lot of physical energy for the service of people. Why is it that labourers are seen as below humans and when a high-rank person comes in, he is respected? What we need to understand is that no person is superior than the Almighty. People discriminate on the ground of their profession which is not correct. Many youngsters in the valley undergo depression because they have professional pressures because of the inferiority complex that if they pursue some other profession they might be less respected and liked. This is where the problem arises. Even if they have passion for jobs, they just neglect their passion. Their dreams often get shattered and unfulfilled. If parents are supportive towards their profession, they will definitely gain excellence but when they are neglected their interests and abilities fade slowly. Every creature in this world competes with each other from time to time. It is human nature to prove oneself best. In order to survive, humans have to work hard and compete with the outer world. They are often thirsty for love and respect. Humans want to be superior and they work for achieving higher goals, some people make it while others fail to reach it for many reasons. The truth is that everyone works, no job is big or small as long as it’s contributing to society. Officers or labourers, one must give them equal respect. We must talk in a good tone to every person so that the world becomes a beautiful place to live in.
